RE: Miles per day?

300-350 is a comfortable day for us. if its all interstate i can do 500 or so without being a danger on the road. That being said I can and have made the 1000 mile trip from here in PA to Orlando nonstop but i feel like cr@p when i get there and end up sleeping 12 hours anyhow so i don't really 'save' time by doing it that way. its much easer to not kill myself (literally or figuratively) and stop for a night on the way.

RE: do i winterize 'wrong'?

Live in PA so it gets cold enough to freeze here. i didn't forget about the water heater...it drains via the low point drain. That's good to know.. I always thought the only way to get all the water out of the heater was to remove the anode rod or plug. Always leaves a mess down the side of my rig....I'll have to try it on mine this year. make sure you open at least one of the faucets that helps vent

RE: do i winterize 'wrong'?

Live in PA so it gets cold enough to freeze here. i didn't forget about the water heater...it drains via the low point drain. the first year i did verify that it was empty by removing the ionizeing (sp) rod. I did have some concerns about faucets but like i said its been 3 years and no issues. the plumbing is pretty simple in my trailer...no loops. I also think the fact that i tow it 50 miles or so with everything open helps too.

do i winterize 'wrong'?

After reading many posts about people winterizing (it is getting to be that time of year) using pumps, compressors and gallons antifreeze i feel like i am doing something wrong. This is what i have been doing for the past 3 winters (in PA) without any issues. When i leave the campsite from the last trip this is all i do: 1) open all faucets 2) remove low point drain plugs 3) open all tanks, grey, black and fresh. 4) turn on fresh water pump till nothing comes out. 5)put about a cup of antifreeze in tub, sinks and toilet. 6)drive home. thats it! I think most people make it MUCH more complicated than it needs to be.

RE: Winter Travel in Snow, how bad is it?

I have towed in snow...its not bad best advice is SLOW DOWN! turn down the trailer brakes a bit. assuming your trip to FL will mostly be interstate you will run into very little snow covered roads.

RE: Ants.....what to do?

I had a HUGE ant problem this summer. the ones i got were very small not carpender ants, I call them p!$$ ants. I tried EVERYTHING. I sprayed, baited and everything else that i could think of. what it came down to was i took EVERYTHING out and shut down all power and propane and bug bombed it, TWICE. Not ideal but it worked. i am ant free.

RE: Eden Pure in TT

Yes a clamp on amp meter will show how much is used but what is that going to prove....i can pop a 30 amp braker by running my running the electric water heater, charger/converter and the microwave at the same time. have i ever seen a CG manager/owner going to each site and clamp metering everybody's cord. Not saying that some don't but if there was someone messing with my power cable it may be time to find a new CG

RE: protecting sway bar

Mine looks pretty rough too. As long as its the its not the inner slide its all cosmetic. I spray my bolt (the one that adds more friction) with WD-40 every other time or so. If it looking bad bothers you I suppose you could get some good quality spray paint and repaint it...just be careful not to get any on the inner slide or the 'pad' on the outter... thinking about it all you would have to do is loosen the bold and slide the inner the whole way in. Or if you want to be real fancy a new one can be had on Ebay for less than $50.

RE: Eden Pure in TT

I too have heard that many CGs are baning electric heaters. My Q is how would a CG know if you had a electric heater? To they ask to look inside? in someway monitor amount of electric used then cut you off if you use to much? what about reverse cycle ACs are they allowed? I'll be buying some sort of electric heater for my next trip at the end of the month. Not anything pricy...as i don't camp in the fall/spring much unless its boondocking then i'll use the propane.

RE: I'm fed up with the hunt....

call a few of the more reasonable dealers, tell them what you are looking for and have them give you a call when they get it in.

RE: Towing, speed, safety

Don't feel bad. as long as your able to keep 60 or so go with it. I call it Trailer Pass Syndrome, or TPS for short. Its a condition that effects most all auto drivers and many semi drivers. symptoms of TPS are cutting off, flipping off and using whatever (sometimes the brim, on coming lanes, ect) means necessary to pass an RV. those inflected with TPS will pass the RV regardless of its current speed. In one instance i was passed while i was going 80+ (yes i know going that fast was stupid, but it was in the name of science). Cases of TPS increase in/near major metro areas. It is appearntly VERY contagious to others, often all it takes is seeing someone with TPS to cause its spread. I have also noted that the condition often flares near road construction. Don't let TPS kill your RV experience.

RE: Tow/haul mode

I use mine *most* of the time. Mine seems to not want to let the tranny go into overdrive unless i am 65mph+. If i am towning on the flat at my normal 60 i'll kick it off so it will up shift.

RE: How long are you going to keep your current travel trailer?

Considering mine is paid for i'll keep it till it falls apart. We looked hard and nearly got a new 5er but the dealer upped the price $1500 at the last second so we walked on the deal....I'll bet now he wishes he didn't (its still sitting on his lot). We went to the Hershey RV show and just couldn't find anything that we liked enough to start making payments on.

RE: Opinions wanted - 08 GMC 6L Gas

I'll chime in on this. I have an older (2000) 6.0 2500 w/4.10s I have put 10K+ (skid steer trailer) behind it and it will hold its own. my TT is only 6K and it will move that like its not even there. I wouldn't think twice about towing what the OP's trailer with my "old as dirt underpowered gasser". That being said i am Sure there are diesels out there that would make it look sick. But the 6.0 Gasser will get it done safely, cheaply and reliably.

RE: Tips for a Trip for newbies from PA to Fla.

I have been down both ways. Honestly one is as bad as the other. 95 has more traffic but its shorter. If you are willing to travel at night then traffic shouldn't be much of a problem.
